Benefiting from “Stay-at-Home Economy” China’s Exports of Massage & Healthcare Appliances Grow Significantly

During pandemic the global “stay-at-home economy” is developing rapidly. According to the statistics of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, from Jan. to Aug. 2021, China’s export volume of massage and health appliances (HS code 90191010) reached US$4.002 billion, an increase of 68.22% y/y. The total exports to 200 countries and regions basically covered worldwide.

From the perspective of exporting countries and regions, the US, S. Korea, the UK, Germany, and Japan have greater demand for Chinese massage and health care appliances. China’s exports to the above five trading partners are US $1.252 billion, US $399 million, US $277 million, U.S. $267 million and US $231 million. Among them, the US is the largest exporter of Chinese massage appliances, and has maintained a relatively strong demand for Chinese massage appliances.

According to China Medical Insurance Chamber of Commerce, China’s massage and healthcare appliances are still in short supply in overseas markets, and exports this year are expected to reach US $5 billion.

According to the data from iiMedia Research, in 2020, the sales of Healthcare product in China has reached 250 Billion yuan, the market for healthcare food for the elderly in China is 150.18 billion yuan. The health food market for the elderly is expected to grow by 22.3% and 16.7% year-on-year in 2021 and 2022, respectively. The market for young and middle-aged people will reach 70.09 billion yuan in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 12.4%. About 94.7% of pregnant women will consume nutritious health foods during pregnancy, such as folic acid, milk powder, compound/multi-vitamin tablets.
