Why Are Your Overseas Parcels Stuck at China Customs?

Here’s what you need to know before shipping goods to China.

Many clients contact us every day with the same problem:
“I bought items overseas and shipped them to China via EMS — now customs says I must handle import clearance. What should I do?”

The Most Common Reasons EMS Parcels Are Held

Your shipment will usually be detained if:

  • Import taxes exceed RMB 50, or

  • Parcel value exceeds:

    • RMB 800 from Hong Kong / Macao / Taiwan

    • RMB 1,000 from other countries

In these cases, the parcel must be cleared as a formal import, not personal mail.

What Happens Next?

  • The receiver must complete import customs declaration

  • If you don’t have an import/export license, you must use a licensed import agent

Basic documents usually include:

  • Import declaration form

  • Packing list

  • Commercial invoice

  • Sales contract

Special products (food, cosmetics, skincare, clothing, toys, etc.)
require additional technical and compliance documents.
If documents cannot be provided, the only options are return shipment or abandonment.

Avoid Costly Mistakes

Before shipping goods from overseas to China, always understand the customs rules and value limits — otherwise, delays and losses are very likely.

 We provide:

  • Import agent services (no license needed)

  • EMS & parcel customs clearance support

  • Compliance consulting for special products

  • Practical solutions to get your goods released legally
